Elizabeth Short was born on July 29, 1924 in Boston Massachusetts. At only five years old her father Cleo was presumed dead by suicide after finding him gone and his car by a river. She threw herself into theatre and by her teens she had her heart set on being an actress. At the age of 18 her father revealed that he was still alive and Elizabeth went to live with him in California. Living with her father did not work out for Elizabeth and by 1943 she had moved out and began living with some friends including one particularly abusive man. About halfway through 1943 she relocated to Santa Barbara where she was arrested for underage drinking. After that she moved to Florida where she remained until 1946 when she moved to LA after her fiance had died. She began working as a waitress while developing her acting career.

Just before 11am on January 15, 1947 a mother and her child were walking along a street in Los Angeles when the daughter pointed out a mannequin across the street. The mother walked up to the mannequin and as she got closer she saw that it wasn't a mannequin after all it was a woman who had been sliced clean in half along with multiple other gruesome injuries and the body was propped up in a very precise position to make the woman look as doll like as possible. But there was no blood suggesting that the murder had happened somewhere else and this was merely a dumping ground.

After the police arrived they identified the body to be the body of Elizabeth short. Elizabeth earned the nickname of the Black Dahlia from the press when a man at a local store revealed to them that that was the name the men used when talking about Elizabeth.
