At 11:30 pm on Christmas eve, Bruce Jeffrey Pardo knocked on the door of his ex-wives Silvia’s in-law's house. He was dressed in a Santa costume. He was greeted by 8-year-old Katrina Yuzefpolsky; he immediately shot her in the head with a semi-automatic handgun. He then began to shoot other people in the house wildly. Then he proceeded to unwrap a homemade compressed air machine that was full of petrol, his very own flamethrower. With this, he set the home on fire. Afterwards, Bruce drove to his brother's house where he parked his car, got out and shot himself in the head he died from this injury.

Bruce's motives are very clear as he had only the week prior finalised his divorce with Silvia which in fact his mother had sat with Silvia and her family in court which deeply upset Bruce. He had actually planned to kill his mother that night but she was sick and therefore did not attend the party. Besides that the main reason that Silvia filed for divorce was she found out that Bruce had a child with a previous wife. Speaking of this child he had left them after he was supposed to be watching his child but he wasn't and the young child fell into the pool and suffered lifelong brain injuries which are in fact why he left as he "Couldn't handle it". He felt that it was very wrong of Silvia to divorce him and that in fact was what we believe to be his motive.
